When I was a child, I believed a lot of things that I now know are not true.
1. Our house was not dirty and needed paint. It was really gray. The other houses in the neighborhood were white, so you can see how I reached my conclusion.
2. My face will not freeze like that.
3. My eyes won't get stuck and be crossed for the rest of my life.
4. All dogs are not boys, nor are all cats girls.
5. Christmas (or summer) will never, ever get here.
6. I have all the time in the world.
7. People I love will live forever.
8. Bad things happen somewhere else.
9. I will never grow old like everybody else does.
10. If a praying mantis spits in my eye, I'll go blind.
Okay, maybe I still believe the last one.

On The First Day Of Summer My True Love Said To Me
1.Ain't it hottern usual?
2.Ah'm sweatin' like a sinner at revival!
3.Is the air tore up, or are you tryin' to be frugal again?
4.It's hottern H. E. L.-okay, okay, I won't say it, but you know how hot it is.
5.I'm growin gills it's so humid.
6.It's so hot yore granny took off one of her sweaters.
7.I thought pigs didn't sweat and your cousin Jethrine is sweatin and she's a pig.
8.I'm movin' to Canada.
9.Don't leave the car winders up or it'll explode the windshield.
10.I don't know if the maters are gonna make it or not. They's wiltin purdy bad.
11.Ever time I git in that dang car, I stick to the seats so bad they have to peel me off when I get thar.
12.I reckon we could bile the aiggs in the fish pond and not turn on the stove, it's too hot to do that.
And for a baker's dozen:
13.This heat is makin you illern a sore tailed cat.

That was Fast!
So, how did you enjoy spring? And summer, for that matter. Whoo-ee, it was hot!
I know you can't trust March, and the first week or two of April aren't much better.
But it was so warm, I couldn't help myself.
Off went the heavy crocheted comforter. Off went the dark ruby and forest green colored quilt. Off went the flannel sheets.
On came cotton sheets and the pastel pinks and mint green comforter.
Off went my sweat pants and sweat shirt.
Hello, lightweight cotton pants and T-shirt.
Until this morning...hello, sweat pants and sweat shirt.
We sleep upstairs and it got so hot one night I came this close to turning on the air conditioning.
Instead, on came the fans, up came the windows!
This morning we turned on the heat.
Mid-forties again tonight.
Who knows about tomorrow night.
Not me, that's for sure.

It's Already Happening
Yesterday morning Husband and I went walking along the river. I felt a stiff breeze waft through my wet corkscrew (although still beautiful and blonde) hair and thought to myself, "That feels like the fall of the year."
I looked up, and lo and behold, five or six leaves came floating down.
This morning, when I was in the shower, I looked out the transom window (on the second floor) and at the very tippy top of the oak tree what did I see? That's right, red leaves.
So, I guess fall is on its way. You could certainly feel it in the air this morning.
Our summer has been not very hot, but very, very wet. All the 'old timers' used to say if it rained the first day of Dog Days it would rain every day until Dog Days was over.
That's certainly been true this year. It had not rained all day yesterday. As I was coming to bed, Husband raised his head and said, "I think it just started raining."
And it had. It rained for just a few minutes, as if to say, "There, I've rained today."
Then it stopped.
I've seen no rain today, but I will be more surprised if it doesn't than if it does.
I ain't complaining, mind you.
I HATE hot weather. July to mid-August is the only time of year I don't like Georgia weather.
And this year?
No hate from me.
I hear people asking, "Does this mean we are going to have a bad winter?"
Beats me.
But you know what I always say, "Let it snow, let it snow, let it snow."
Runs far, far away.
